Darrick Thomson was swimming across a river in Thailand, letting himself be carried by the current, when the water began to drag him with more force than he expected.
From the shore, Kham Lha did not hesitate. The baby elephant, part of the group of more than 70 rescued animals that Thomson cares for, jumped into the river convinced that her caretaker was in danger. She swam to him and wrapped him with her trunk, protecting him as if he were one of her own.
Thomson eventually made it to shore on his own, but Kham Lha did not move away for a second, watching every movement of the water. “When we treat animals with love, they will always return love to us”, the foundation wrote when sharing the video. 🐘💙
