Veterinary science and human orthopedics joined forces in a historic milestone to save Msituni, a baby giraffe at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The little one was born with a malformation in her front legs that prevented her from standing or walking, a condition that in the wild would have been an immediate death sentence.

Faced with this unprecedented challenge, veterinarians contacted Hanger Clinic, specialists in human orthopedics, who designed custom braces to correct her limb posture.
After fitting the pieces, Msituni finally managed to take her long-awaited first steps. This breakthrough not only gave the giraffe a full life but also set a unique precedent for treating similar cases in other species in the future. 🦒✨
