Davi, a rhino barely eight months old, was orphaned in 2018 after poachers killed his mother in South Africa to remove her horns. Rescuers believe the little one witnessed the attack, which caused him deep emotional trauma.

Rangers transferred him to The Rhino Orphanage sanctuary, where they tried to keep him calm by covering his eyes and ears to reduce stress. For nearly a week, Davi refused food, remained curled up, and cried constantly while calling for his mother.

The caregivers said he had no serious physical injuries, but “a broken heart”. With patience and constant care, they finally got him to accept milk and begin to recover. Some time later, he formed a bond with two other orphaned rhinos named Lolli and Lotti ❤️🩹.
