This photo seems like the kind a family keeps forever. A baby just 7 weeks old, named Zhavia, was photographed alongside her mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother, bringing together six generations of women in a single image.
The oldest is Cordelia Mae Hawkins, 98, who was able to meet her great-great-great-granddaughter after relatives traveled from Ohio, South Carolina, and Kentucky to make the meeting happen. In other words, it was not just any photo: people were moving from different states just to make that moment possible.
And it makes sense, because not every day does a family manage to gather six living generations in the same room. Even less so to capture it in an image where you can literally see the passage of time in the same bloodline.
The family came close to the Guinness record of seven living generations, but the photo already has something much harder to achieve: almost a century of family history gathered in the same embrace.
In the end, more than the record, what moves people is thinking about everything contained there: a baby just arriving in the world and a 98-year-old woman getting to meet her. Six generations, one family, and a photo they will probably look at for years.
