Hilde Lynn Helphenstein was 40 years old when she was found dead on May 31, 2026, in her room at the Rosewood hotel in São Paulo. She had traveled to Brazil for cosmetic surgery. She was found by her own plastic surgeon after she stopped answering the phone. Brazilian police classified the death as suspicious and are awaiting forensic results.

But the story that shook thousands was not her death — it was what she herself had written about her life. In 2024, under the name millions knew her by on social media, “Jerry Gogosian”, she published an autobiography on Substack in which she documented in detail what happened at Mountain Park Baptist Boarding Academy, a boarding school opened in 1984 in Patterson, Missouri. According to her testimony, confirmed by her former classmate Meaghan Richter, school authorities forced her to eat her own vomit in front of hundreds of people in the dining hall. The institution charged about $1,000 a month for that. 💰

Helphenstein survived the boarding school, earned a master’s degree from New York University, built an account with 156,000 followers, and struggled for years with severe alcohol dependence. She achieved sobriety at 33. She posted her last video the night before she died — her words were slurred. The school that marked her as a child never responded publicly. Where is the accountability? 🔍
