Bárbara Ábalos was 35 years old, a graphic designer, and expecting high-risk twin daughters. On July 4, 2020, she was admitted to Clínica Alemana in Santiago with preeclampsia and underwent an emergency cesarean section.

Nine days later, the situation took a turn no one expected: seizures and a massive brain hemorrhage left her in a minimally conscious state, unable to speak or move on her own. Since 2021, she has lived in a rehabilitation center in Houston, dependent on others for everything.

Today she is 41 years old and the mother of four daughters who are growing up knowing her only through photos and stories. On July 31, 2026, six years later, the Eastern Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office formally charged the gynecologist who treated her with negligent infliction of serious injuries, accused of failing to treat in time the preeclampsia that changed her life in a matter of days.
