63 years old, an orange uniform, and a sink to clean. This is what Ghislaine Maxwell looks like in surveillance footage recorded on July 1, 2020, inside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, which came to light as part of the declassified files in the Jeffrey Epstein case.
The camera captures her making her bed, folding her clothes, and lying down reading a book, under 24-hour surveillance. Nothing reminiscent of the life of luxury she had alongside Epstein before her 2021 conviction for sex trafficking of minors, which cost her 20 years in prison.
And that reflects much of life behind bars, especially in solitary and isolated cells, living the same routine every day in the same place. Many described it as something “that could drive someone insane” and pointed out that no one would like to live like that, especially if it were a life sentence.
