That piece, so personal that it seemed impossible to sell, ended up at the American auction house Goldin, in the ‘Global Football Auction Part 2’, sharing the spotlight with items belonging to Messi and Pelé. 🏆
The buyer took home much more than a trophy: a certificate signed by Mendy himself confirms that it is real. The final price? $62,200, around 54,000 euros, for a symbol that is worth much more than that to the Frenchman.
In 2021, Mendy’s name became associated with legal proceedings in the United Kingdom, where he faced accusations of rape and attempted rape that kept him off the pitch for two years and included time in prison. He was ultimately found not guilty in July 2023. After his acquittal, he tried to relaunch his career at Lorient and Zurich, although without consistency.
