Better dead than basic: Young man teaches martial arts and self-defense in his best suit. They call him the Peruvian John Wick

Kicks go with a suit, too. Kevin Torres Mendoza, a Peruvian martial artist and content creator, explains how to defend yourself when formal clothes restrict your movements: he recommends low kicks and shows how to stop someone trying to throw a punch with a side kick. It all happens in a suit and dress shoes; the contrast between the formal attire and his moves makes it impossible not to think of a Peruvian version of John Wick.

But behind the acrobatics are years of training. Torres began practicing sanda—a kung fu combat style—during his teens, and in 2014 he was crowned national champion in the 60 to 65-kilogram category. He also trained in contemporary dance, ballet, and acrobatic gymnastics to develop the flexibility he shows in his videos today. He currently teaches martial arts in Los Olivos, Lima.

And the “Peruvian John Wick” thing isn’t just an internet comparison. In 2023, Kevin said he would appear in the Peruvian film El magnate, where he would play a martial arts expert hired by millionaires to take on mafias. Pretty much the perfect résumé for continuing to dish out kicks in a suit.
