San José del Palmar was left unrecognizable on August 10.
An earthquake measuring 7,4, the strongest Colombia has experienced so far this century, shook Chocó at 7:34 in the morning and changed everything. More than 300 people died, thousands were injured, and tens of thousands were left without a roof, without food, without anything they could recognize as home.

From the United States, Beyoncé decided she would not stand by and watch. Her company, Parkwood Entertainment, announced on August 25 a personal donation of one million dollars, directed to Food For The Poor and World Central Kitchen, two organizations already working on the ground, distributing food and housing materials in the hardest-hit areas.

This is not the first time she has opened her wallet in the face of a tragedy: she did the same after the Los Angeles fires and Hurricane Harvey in Houston. Now she joins fellow Colombians such as Shakira and Karol G, who also contributed millions to rebuild schools and homes. Sometimes fame only matters for this: for how quickly it can become help for those who need it most.
