An 18-year-old woman ended up with her head completely shaved after running up a bill she couldn’t pay at a bar in Bangkok.
According to reports, she had used an altered ID to enter the establishment and ran up a debt of nearly US$1,800 after purchasing more than 200 drinks charged to the venue’s hosts. When she was unable to pay, negotiations began and ended with the young woman signing an agreement related to handing over her hair.
What happened next was recorded: the person in charge of the bar used an electric clipper to shave her head completely. He claims that both the young woman and her mother accepted the agreement, but both maintain that they never understood it would mean leaving her completely bald.
The young woman also reported that she had not authorized the video to be shared on social media. Authorities are now investigating whether there were threats or coercion and under what circumstances the agreement was actually made.
