Bodybuilder fell into a deep depression after his divorce — 99 chihuahuas brought him back to the world

Bobby Humphreys weighed more than 130 kilos of muscle, competed in bodybuilding, and laughed at any man who had a small dog. On New Year’s Eve 2016, his wife of 17 years asked for a divorce and left. A week later, a shoulder injury kept him out of the gym, which was the only thing he knew. He started drinking. He sank.

His friend Connie refused to abandon him even though he asked her to a thousand times. When she was kicked out of her house and couldn’t take her chihuahua Lady with her, Bobby took her in almost reluctantly. Lady was difficult, temperamental, the kind of dog he had always despised. But something happened: she was the only creature in the world that made him want to get out of bed.

From there he couldn’t stop. Kira arrived, with food aggression. Then Harley and her sister Queen, rescued from horrific conditions. After that came Bella, with nails so long they curled back toward her own paws. In 2018 he founded the Big Guy, Littles World Sanctuary in his home. Today he lives with 99 chihuahuas and a cat, funds it with a product line he developed himself, and every night he sleeps surrounded by love. 🐾
