Gaynor Hopkins, that Welsh girl from a mining family who dreamed of singing, became Bonnie Tyler and gave the world one of the most unmistakable voices in music. 🎤

On July 8, 2026, at the age of 75, she was extinguished forever in a hospital in Portugal.
Her final story hurts because of how unexpected it was. On May 6, at her home in the Algarve, a burst appendix perforated her intestine and she had to undergo emergency surgery.
Then came the induced coma, a cardiac arrest from which she was resuscitated on May 11, and another coma. It was only on June 15 that she woke up, and the doctors spoke of a slow but possible recovery.

Last night, without prior warning, everything ended. “Bonnie’s family and team are devastated”, they wrote in the statement, asking for privacy as they come to terms with the tragedy.

🕊️ Her raspy voice, that of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero”, continues to sound in millions of homes that today bid her farewell.
