While goalkeepers all over the world throw themselves toward the center hoping to guess which side the shot will go, the Moroccan discovered another way to play that lottery: move toward one corner and stay on his feet. Against Nigeria and against the Netherlands, he did it before millions of eyes, and it worked.
With his feet firmly planted, he covers the low shot, and because he stays upright —not sprawled on the grass— he can still stretch out his hands if the ball rises. It’s covering almost half the goal without risking anything too early. ⚽
If the idea spreads among other goalkeepers, it already has a name waiting: just as the Panenka was born from a single man, this technique could very well be called simply “the Bono”.
