Jude Baker was 12 years old when he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer. “It wasn’t even knowing that I could die”, he said about chemotherapy. “It hurt.”

When treatment ended, Make-A-Wish offered him the wish that almost every sick child dreams of: a trip, meeting an idol, experiencing something unforgettable. Jude asked for something else. He had seen homeless people near the hospital and couldn’t stop thinking about them. “I got out of my own hell, and I want to help others who are in theirs”, he explained.

In Summerville, Georgia, he and dozens of volunteers prepared hot meals, sleeping bags, and backpacks with essential items for more than 300 people. Jude set just one rule that day: he would not eat until everyone in line had been served first.

Today he is in remission and asks for just one more thing: “It doesn’t have to come from a wish. You can help too.”
