Kenzie Macrae loves animals. So when his friend told him there was a legless lizard nearby in a park in Sutherland, Scotland, he didn’t hesitate for a second to approach and pet it.
It wasn’t a species of legless lizard (Slow Worm). It was a venomous viper, and it sank its fangs into his left index finger. Kenzie ended up in the hospital in an emergency, receiving antivenom, while his mother spent entire nights unable to sleep, fearing the worst.
The boy returned home, but eleven days later he went back to the hospital: his body reacted to the antivenom itself with serum sickness, which inflamed his joints and covered his skin in a rash. Today, according to his mother, Kenzie has fully recovered.
