A school principal in Oklahoma saw that a dangerous situation was getting out of control and didn’t wait around for someone else to react. Kirk Moore left his office, stepped in to protect his students, and ended up injured in one leg during the struggle.

The incident happened at Pauls Valley High School, when a former student entered the school with weapons and began threatening those who were there. According to reports, Moore didn’t hesitate: he went straight toward him and, with the help of another staff member, managed to stop him before it all ended much worse.

Days later, his students wanted to thank him in a very special way. During prom, they crowned him king of the night while Hero played, a song that suited someone perfectly who had just shown so much bravery.

And then, for once, the title fit him perfectly. Because Moore was not a “hero” from speeches or movies: he was the adult who showed up when his students needed him most.
