Some savings are measured in bills. This man’s were measured in coins—and not just a few.

On Saturday, October 17, a tire repairman arrived at a vehicle dealership in Quixeramobim, in the interior of Ceará, Brazil. He wanted to drive away in a 2009 Toyota Hilux SRV. According to local media, the price was around 21.800 dollars. He traded in another vehicle as a down payment and said he would pay the rest, in part, with 1-real coins he had saved for years.

The owner of the dealership, Rafael Fernandes, knew there would be coins. He had no idea how many. They arrived in sacks and a large jug of about 20 liters. Rafael and four employees started counting them and spent nearly 8 hours without managing to finish. In the end, they had to load everything up and take it to a bank branch to complete the count.
According to the seller, the buyer preferred to save this way because it seemed safer to him and because he wanted to see how much he could accumulate. He dreamed of buying a vehicle outright. Rafael said that in 10 years in the business, he had never received a payment like that, and that he accepted it so he wouldn’t lose the sale. The video of the handover has already surpassed 1 million views.
