Brazilian forward Carlos Vinicius went through a nightmare that will go down in football history. During a match between Grêmio and Palestino, the player had the chance to kick a penalty that he ended up repeating thrice. During six minutes that seemed to stretch to an eternity, Vinicius couldn’t pass the goalie no matter what. The pressure rose, turning a moment of advantage into one of the worst individual streaks in recent history.

Vinicius’ nightmare began when goalie Sebastian Perez stopped his first kick. But the referee said he should try again because the goalie stepped forward. The second time, the forward decided to aim somewhere else and once again, he met the goalie’s hands.

Unbelievably, Perez stepped forward again, so the referee decreed Vinicius had a third try. The stadium was filled with disbelief by this almost too surreal moment.

On his third and last try, Vinicius’ misfortune was sealed painfully as he suddenly slipped. His kick was once again stopped by Perez, who became the night’s hero as he stopped each and every attempt. Grêmio was unable to break the 0 – 0 tie and the Brazilian player ended the match in visible distress over his lack of efficiency. This shocking series of mistakes reminded us of the historic streak by Martin Palermo, linking Vinicius to an unrepeatable incident.
