Breanna Morello paid more to fly comfortably and ended up in a nightmare middle seat. According to her account on social media, during an American Airlines flight she was seated next to a man weighing more than 136 kilos, while she weighs around 54. She said he was taking up part of her seat, kept brushing against her, and took off his clothes mid-flight. She also mentioned a strong smell of marijuana and body odor.

What bothered her most, she says, was the silence. She tried to ask for help discreetly, but says the crew had no way to assist her without exposing her, and that no one wanted to confront the passenger. Her message sparked an uncomfortable conversation: she called for a serious discussion about space on planes and people who are overweight. Many agreed with her that she had paid and hadn’t received the seat she expected. Others responded that the problem isn’t anyone’s body, but seats that keep getting smaller.

Should the airline address these situations before the flight takes off?
