It was 4 in the morning in Fatehpur, India, and the wedding rituals of Tanu Kesarwani, 19, were proceeding without incident. Until her dog, tied near the altar, started barking.

A guest from the groom’s family, Sumit Kesarwani, 25, hit it to make it stop barking.

What followed was a full-blown fight involving chairs and sticks between both families. Five people were injured, including the bride herself, who suffered a fractured hand, and her brother Rishabh, whose hand was broken. Police had to intervene to stop the chaos.

Tanu and Sumit had been together for two years and had already married at an Arya Samaj temple in Kanpur. But she did not hesitate: she refused to continue with the formal ceremony, returned the jewelry, and ended the relationship on the spot.

Anyone who does not respect an animal respects no one.
