Cindy Murray was 6 years old when her brother Robert Williamson disappeared from her life.

Her parents went their separate ways, and with them went any trace of the other. Cindy grew up in Denver wondering what had happened to him, searching through thousands of Facebook profiles for a Robert Williamson she did not even know what looked like. She never found him. What she never imagined was that the two of them, on separate paths, had ended up serving in the United States Navy.

The reunion came about through a military coincidence: Murray’s petty officer recognized the last name and asked Williamson whether he had a sister named Cindy. Williamson fell silent. More than 3o years later, in Balboa Park, San Diego, they embraced again. Now they talk on the phone all the time, although Williamson still has questions: “Those are the little things one forgets to ask”.
