Adonis and Apollo arrived trembling at a high-kill shelter in Texas, abandoned by the family that had raised them together.

They wouldn’t let go of each other. The volunteers found them hugging, as if the other’s warmth were the only thing keeping them on their feet.

Cindy Droogmans, founder of A-Team ELITE Rescuedogs, got them out of there and took them to New York to treat their heartworm, knowing that finding a family willing to adopt both brothers together would be almost impossible. Almost.

Jennifer and Donald, a Virginia couple with two rescued dogs of their own, fell in love with their story and opened the door of their home—with four acres of land—to welcome them both. When they arrived, Adonis escaped and triggered 24 hours of desperate searching. When they found him and brought him back to Apollo, something changed: for the first time, they understood that no one was ever going to separate them again.
