In 2021, Tallulah Willis was at a wedding that was not her own, in Martha’s Vineyard. She heard the bride’s father give a speech, and something inside her broke.
She thought of her own father. She thought of Bruce Willis, of the changes that were already beginning to show in him, though the world did not yet have a name for it. She thought she would never have that moment. She left the party and cried among the bushes, alone.
Two years later, the family confirmed what Tallulah had already sensed: Bruce had frontotemporal dementia. She wrote about it in an essay for Vogue. She spoke of the fear, but also of something else: that her father still knew who she was, that he lit up when she entered a room.
On August 8, 2026, Tallulah married Justin Acee in the yard of the house where she grew up, in Idaho. Bruce was there.
There was no speech like the one she had imagined through tears five years earlier. But there is a photograph: Tallulah embracing her father as he holds the hand of his new son-in-law. She described it as a moment she will never forget.
