Body camera footage that had remained hidden for months was finally released, sparking public outrage and serious legal consequences for an officer in Texas.
The victim was Victoria Lang, a 19-year-old autistic woman who was going through a complex personal situation. After becoming homeless, she sought temporary shelter in the bathroom of a McDonald’s in Wichita Falls while trying to change clothes and figure out where to spend the night.
After a call from the manager, officers Daniel Wilson and Douglas Gulley arrived at the scene. What should have been a calm intervention with a vulnerable person ended up turning into an extremely tense scene.
According to the footage, Officer Wilson ignored attempts at dialogue and acted aggressively from the start. Minutes later, Victoria ended up pinned to the floor in front of customers and employees of the establishment.
The most controversial moment occurred when the officers applied a dangerous restraint technique, holding the young woman’s hands and legs behind her back while she remained completely under control.
