Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez referred to Jake Paul again and, although he acknowledged the enormous media impact generated by the influencer-turned-boxer, he made it clear that his success is due more to spectacle than to athletic level.

The Mexican said that Paul “sells to kids and people who really don’t know boxing because of all the clowning around he does and they want to watch him. I don’t think he’s bad for boxing”.

For Canelo, Jake Paul’s recent defeat against an elite opponent helped him understand the difference between entertainment and high-level boxing. “Now he has seen what it’s like to fight a real boxer”.

He insisted that the American has built his popularity by attracting a different audience from the traditional one, without that necessarily affecting boxing negatively.
