Captain was found on the streets of Detroit, Michigan, hungry, sick, and wearing a red collar, as if he had once had a home. Detroit Dog Rescue took him in and gave him everything a dog could need: medical care, training, spoonfuls of peanut butter, and soft beds to rest on.

But every night, the same thing happens. Captain ignores the bed and curls up inside a cardboard box. No one knows exactly what he experienced on the streets, but his body seems to remember it, and that piece of cardboard is the only place where his heart calms down.

“I can’t change his past, but we can give him a future, even if that means providing him with endless cardboard boxes”, explained the shelter director. Today, Captain lives in a foster home in Michigan while he waits for a family that understands that healing also takes its own time.
