Wendy Wilson, an 84-year-old woman with dementia, survived a violent attack inside her own home on Long Island, allegedly at the hands of the caregiver hired to assist her.

According to the prosecution, Amanda Fraser, 23, allegedly attacked the elderly woman while she was defenseless. The victim was found hours later by police during a welfare check requested by relatives and was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

The most controversial aspect of the case is that the care agency the accused worked for filed court documents arguing that the elderly woman herself was responsible for the injuries she suffered. Fraser faces charges that could mean up to 25 years in prison if she is found guilty.
