Nicolás Gastón Cichero, 37, worked as a caregiver at the David nursing home in Mar del Plata. On Monday, July 27, the facility’s security cameras recorded what he did when no one seemed to be watching: he roughly laid down a resident in a wheelchair and shouted at her, “Why don’t you die, you old b…? Die already”, in addition to threatening to smash her head if she dared to defend herself.
In another recording from the same day, he hit another elderly woman with a spoon while feeding her, leaving her with a cut on her lip. In a third incident, he covered her head with an item of clothing for several seconds while continuing to insult her.
When the nursing home’s managers saw the videos, they fired him the next day and filed a criminal complaint. The case was classified as minor injuries, although the authorities tried unsuccessfully to locate him at his home. Two defenseless elderly women were exposed to that violence when they should have been cared for. Will any sentence be commensurate with what is seen in those images?
