Carlos is one year and five months old, and he nearly lost his battle against a cancer no one saw coming.
A squamous cell carcinoma attacked both of his ears, so aggressively that veterinarians had no other option: a total pinnectomy, meaning the complete amputation of the outer part of both little ears to stop the spread of malignant cells. His story first went viral among Facebook communities dedicated to “orange” cats, where his caregivers shared every update to raise awareness about this disease in light-coated felines exposed to the sun.
Today, Carlos has the rounded shape that users affectionately dubbed “cosmic cat”, and he is completely free of the disease. To celebrate, his owners made him a special cake suitable for felines, topped with a small toy car. A photo that melted thousands of hearts and reminded everyone to check their orange cats’ ears.
