Cats have nine lives, and many times they decide to share one of them with those they love.
Sam Felstead owned a surly 7-year-old cat named Billy. She didn’t even know whether he really liked her. He spent the day alone, sleeping, and avoided contact, even with her.
But in the early hours of August 8, in Nottinghamshire, England, the cat noticed something was wrong, prompting him to leap onto his owner’s chest and meow incessantly until he woke her.
“He never bothers me. He doesn’t wake me up to ask for food, nor does he sit with me, but I knew something was wrong because he wouldn’t leave me alone”, Felstead recalled.
Sam was drenched in sweat and had a stabbing pain in her right side. She didn’t know what was happening; she had spent the day without any problems, walked her two dogs, and went to bed without any issues. But Billy’s instincts were stronger.
Sam understood the message from her furry friend; she called her mother, and they rushed to Nottingham City Hospital, where doctors told her that she had suffered a heart attack while sleeping because of a blocked artery.
“I think he saved my life, just like everyone around me”.
A feline behavior expert explained that the cat had probably noticed physiological changes in his owner and reacted. Without that unusual persistence, Sam believes her alarm would not have gone off in time.
