Sonya Dakar, a renowned Beverly Hills esthetician who has worked with figures such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, and Sofía Vergara, surrendered her professional license after a case that went viral.

Victoria Nelson, a former client from Los Angeles, sued her, claiming that a chemical peel performed in 2021 left her with severe burns and permanent facial scars.

The civil lawsuit is still ongoing, but the administrative case has already ended in a settlement: Dakar will not be able to reapply for her license for at least three years and will have to demonstrate rehabilitation if she wants to get it back. Nelson, who shared her story on TikTok and racked up millions of views, celebrated the decision and said that for years she was afraid to speak out.
