The proposal was ambitious: a matambre (Suadero) sandwich more than 700 meters long to distribute among neighbors in Argentina. El Tano grillhouse and the Municipality of Avellaneda organized the event on one of the town’s main avenues with trucks loaded with meat, enormous tables, and hundreds of loaves of bread. The announcement went viral, and hundreds of people arrived early.
But delays in the preparation began to generate unrest. The delay in slicing the bread and the lack of clarity about the distribution increased the tension. The situation exploded when a group of people broke through the security barriers and rushed toward the tables. The chaos was total.
The organizers regretted the outcome and reported that several people took items from the setup in addition to the food. The enormous sandwich managed to reach more than 700 meters, but the chaos ended up overshadowing the celebration. The day that sought to be a gastronomic record turned into a scene of looting and disorder.
