That is how “Together for Her” was born, a campaign that allocated $500,000 to domestic violence shelters in the United States and South Africa. But that was only a drop in something much bigger.
Her foundation, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, created in 2007, had already awarded more than $13 million in grants to community organizations, quietly, without headlines, without seeking applause.
Today, that quiet network protects more than 4.8 million young people in southern Africa, giving them access to healthcare, HIV prevention, and protection from violence. “Home can be dangerous”, she wrote when launching the initiative. And instead of just saying it, she did something about it. 🌍
