Josefa Sáez, a Chilean influencer with nearly half a million followers on TikTok, filmed her dog eating a piece of sashimi with wasabi during a family lunch.
The animal drools, rejects the bite, and yet the moment was uploaded to social media as if it were funny.
The reaction was immediate. Users and animal protection organizations described the video as abuse, reminding people that wasabi can cause gastroenterocolitis, acute pancreatitis, and vomiting in a dog, according to the Veterinary Medical Association. There is nothing funny about that.
When the wave of criticism grew, Sáez deleted the video, disabled comments, and tearfully claimed that it was her father who recorded and posted it, without her consent.
She said she had received threats and apologized, speaking of “innocence”. But many wonder: ignorance and innocence, or a lack of empathy toward an animal that cannot say no? What do you think?
