Chris Pratt only wanted to say thank you. On November 2, 2021, he posted a photo with his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger and wrote that she had given him “a beautiful and healthy daughter”. Those words alone were enough for thousands to interpret something he never directly said.

His first child, Jack, born from his marriage to Anna Faris, came into the world prematurely and with a brain hemorrhage that left him with mild physical disabilities. For some on social media, the word “healthy” sounded like a cruel comparison directed at the boy. For others, it was an exaggerated reading of a message of love with no ill intent.

Neither Pratt nor Faris came forward to clarify anything. Was it an unforgivable oversight by a father toward his own son, or did social media invent an offense where there was only tenderness for a newborn daughter?
