Andy Carroll did not keep silent. In his autobiography “Owning It”, the 37-year-old striker recounted that Wayne Rooney smoked and drank beer in his hotel room during England national team camps.
According to his account, the hotel manager himself brought cartons of cigarettes and cases of beer to the former captain, while the room filled with teammates looking to escape the routine.
Rooney, now a commentator and England’s second-highest all-time scorer, did not stay silent: he called the story “fabricated” and “a total invention”.
