A celebratory tweet. That was all Becky Burke, basketball coach at the University of Arizona, posted on June 8, 2025: that her wife Savannah is pregnant with a baby girl, due in December 2026. Their second child. News that for any family is pure joy.

What came next was something else. Social media filled with hateful messages directed not only at Burke, but also at her future children. Katy Faust, founder of an organization that opposes adoption by same-sex couples, reposted the announcement with negative comments that went viral within minutes. What was supposed to be a moment of happiness became the target of massive abuse.

But Burke did not delete anything. She responded publicly with a phrase that resonated louder than all the hate put together: “I will not let hate win.” 🏀 Fans, players, and even rival coaches flooded her with support. Sometimes the most powerful response is to stay exactly where you are.
