An old video of Pepe and Ángela Aguilar started circulating again, and it only takes a few seconds of listening to understand why. While talking about the singer’s signature haircut, her dad said she had worn it “since she was little”, long before Dua Lipa and other famous women.
Ángela continued the conversation and recalled that Dua cut her hair a couple of years after she released Primero soy mexicana. She even commented, laughing, that “coincidentally” the change in look had happened after that stage of her career.
They never directly said that the British artist had been inspired by her, but they did not do much to stop that idea either. And of course, on the internet those kinds of comments tend to take on a life of their own.
Social media filled up with memes and jokes. Many users said that Pepe Aguilar is his daughter’s biggest fan and that he always finds a way to make her seem like the reference point for everything. Others took the matter with humor and claimed that, by that logic, Dua Lipa must have seen Ángela and thought: “that’s the haircut I need”.
And as usually happens with Ángela Aguilar, the video ended up generating more conversation than the original topic. Because between those who believe it was all a family joke and those who think they were being completely serious, the old clip once again put the singer at the center of social media.
