On July 22, 2027, something that has been debated in Colombia for years will happen: there will no longer be a single bullfight anywhere in the country. 🐂
The No More Olé Law, passed in 2024 and upheld by the Constitutional Court, had already been paving the way. But in July 2026, the Government decided to pick up the pace: it issued a decree banning the use of sharp or electric instruments against bulls and preventing them from being killed in the arena, even during this final year of transition. Minors will also not be allowed to be mounted bullfighters, novice bullfighters, or matadors, nor will they even be allowed to enter to watch a bullfighting show.
Bogotá and Medellín had already made that decision since 2020. Now Cali and Manizales, where bullfighting remained a tradition, have the countdown underway. Colombia thus joins Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Guatemala on the list of countries where there will no longer be a place for bullfighting. 🇨🇴
