A finger was missing, and there was no shortage of desire to fix it.

A man in Colombia decided that his lost phalanx deserved something better than a hole. He sat down at Tatto Studio Colombia and asked for a crocodile on his index finger, so realistic it would look like it was crawling across his hand. In the video, the artist promised exactly that: a hyperrealistic reptile that would move with what was left of the finger, as if it were alive.

He filmed the whole process and posted it on social media. The tattoo ended up with checkered scales running down the back of the hand, a long tail, and a dramatic shadow around it. So far, an ambitious piece of work. The problem was the tip of the finger. That’s where the animal’s head is, and users were quick to give it another name.

“Crocodile body with Perry the Platypus’s head”, one person wrote. Another was harsher and more on point: “Now he doesn’t have to get over losing the phalanx; he has to get over the tattoo”.

The video went viral, but not because of the technique. Everyone expected a fearsome crocodile and found themselves looking at a cartoon secret agent.
