In 2016, Antoine Griezmann ran into Cristiano Ronaldo in Miami months after losing two consecutive finals to the Portuguese player and could not help talking to him.
The Frenchman approached him to say hello at a restaurant and, laughing, blurted out: “Cristiano, I hate you”. The phrase referred to the two defeats he had suffered against him in just a few weeks.
They were the 2016 Champions League final, in which Atlético de Madrid fell to Real Madrid, and the European Championship final, in which France lost to Portugal.
Cristiano recalled the anecdote in an interview with France Football and said that Griezmann took the defeats with humor.
The Portuguese player also spoke about that European Championship final and revealed that before the match he had seen the French players looking too relaxed during the warm-up, something he used as motivation.
Although he had to leave the match injured in the 25th minute in tears, Portugal ended up winning 1-0 and Cristiano lifted the trophy, as well as the Champions League trophy.
