Cristiano Ronaldo broke his silence, and did so with a statement that is already dividing the world of football.

According to his account, after the match against Norway he met with Jorge Jesus, and they had reportedly agreed on a text for the coach to read at the press conference. Jesus never said those words.

The point that set social media ablaze, according to Ronaldo, said: “I made a mistake by having someone of Pelé or Maradona’s stature warm up, only to then leave him out of the match. If it were today, I wouldn’t do it”.

The origin of the problem, the forward says, was the match against Norway: he wasn’t expected to play, the coaching staff asked him if he could play for a few minutes, he agreed, and they told him it would be around 30.

Ronaldo apologized to his teammates and the fans for leaving like that, but says the failure to keep his word broke his trust in the coach.
