Nick Parker’s boss said everyone at the company was family. But he couldn’t understand why Nick had to rush out to pick up one of his children.

Nick has three children with autism. They’re 9, 7, and 4 years old. They need care all day, and therapies and medications cost a fortune.

So he made a decision that felt like a leap into the unknown. He left his full-time job and put on a DoorDash delivery backpack. It’s physically demanding work. But it gives him something no steady paycheck could: control over his own schedule.

At night, he does something else. He tells his story on TikTok. His videos went viral, and apparently, that had a direct impact on his household finances.

Nick says they were about to lose their home to foreclosure. He puts it bluntly: “Raising three children with autism is expensive.” Therapies cost thousands of dollars, so much so that “we had to stop going, even though they would still benefit from them”.

This isn’t a story about caped heroes. It’s about a man who traded security for the ability to show up on time when his children need him.

Some jobs pay a salary. And there’s one that gives you a sense of purpose: being there when they call.
