The drag marks on the ground were what led deputies to them. An abandoned pickup truck on County Road 86, in Lanett, Alabama, with the lights on, the driver’s door open, and the tailgate down. Someone had gotten out in a hurry, or had never gotten out at all.
What they found a few meters away, among the trees, were Daniel Robbins, 44, and Jessica Folds, 47. Both dead. The autopsy confirmed that Folds had been strangled. Robbins, authorities determined, had suffered a heart attack while dragging his girlfriend’s body deeper into the woods. His ex-wife stated that he had a preexisting heart condition. The effort to hide the crime was, literally, what killed him.
Chambers County Sheriff Jeff Nelson clarified that the place where they were found, on June 10, 2026 around 12:20 p.m., was only the dump site: the murder had occurred elsewhere. The first person to report the abandoned vehicle saw the bodies from the road and thought they were mannequins.
