“Everything she had lost, she was going to get back”. ❤️ Daniela García was just 22 when a terrible accident changed her life forever, but she never stopped fighting for her dreams.
In October 2002, this young Chilean woman was studying medicine at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and traveling by train with her classmates to take part in a sports competition.
As she tried to move from one carriage to another, she fell onto the tracks and suffered extremely serious injuries that cost her both hands and legs. Despite everything, she survived.
Then came months of hospitalization, surgeries, and intensive rehabilitation. Daniela had to learn to do everyday activities again using prostheses, with the support of her family and her then-boyfriend, Ricardo.
But she was determined to keep going.
In 2003, she moved all of Chile when she shared her story during the Teletón. Her testimony was crucial in driving donations when reaching the goal seemed difficult.
And she fulfilled her dreams: she completed medical school, specialized in rehabilitation, and began helping other people facing similar journeys.
She also married Ricardo, started a family, and became a mother of three.
Daniela even wrote an autobiographical book called “I Chose to Live”, in which she shares her experience and recovery journey.
Today, she is an inspiration to thousands of people. That accident changed her body and her plans, but it did not stop her from building the future she had always wanted.
