Around her neck was a metal chain so deeply embedded in her skin that veterinarians needed surgery to remove it.
She had infections, damaged skin, and nails that had grown out from months of neglect. No one knows how long she carried that metal embedded in her flesh.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay published her story, and actor Dave Bautista read it. He offered a $5.000-dollar reward for the person responsible for the abuse.
Mickey Rourke, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and a city law firm joined in, bringing the total to $10.300 dollars. The culprit never appeared.
Bautista didn’t stop at the reward: he adopted Sage and renamed her Penny Bautista. “She will never be mistreated again in her life”, he promised.
Today she lives with Maggie and Ollie, two other pit bulls that Bautista rescued from the same organization in 2019.
