David Joyner spent ten years inside Barney’s purple costume, the dinosaur who taught an entire generation of children the alphabet and how to share their toys.
Today he is 63 years old, and his life could hardly be further from that film set. According to UNILAD, he practices tantric massage and describes himself as a spiritual energy healer, more than three decades after taking off the costume. Just a note: he was never the character’s voice, only brought the body to life. That voice belonged to other actors.
On his website, Tantra Harmony, he says he began studying Tantra at 20 and considers all women goddesses. He says his work aims to help them recognize their own worth and find greater spiritual alignment. A full session with him lasts between three and four hours.
Anyone who ever hugged Barney on television would never have imagined this ending for the dinosaur.
