In Mexico, wrestling referee Gerardo Germán Pineda died during a show after taking part in a dangerous move inside the ring.

He was 75, with nearly three decades as a referee and another fifteen in the ring as a wrestler, under the name ‘Búho Negro’. It all happened on the night of the ‘Deslealtades’ show.

The main event pitted ‘El Hijo de Fishman’ against ‘Máscara Sagrada’. A video shared on social media shows the wrestler lunging at the referee and delivering a piledriver.

He grabbed him by the head, lifted his legs, and dropped him. His limbs hit the mat first, followed by his head, which bounced forcefully against it.

Pineda tried to get up, but couldn’t. Medical personnel confirmed his death at the scene. The 36-year-old wrestler was arrested and will be investigated for alleged manslaughter.
