Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboah bet that Jones would receive a yellow card in a Columbus Crew match; he did, and MLS banned them for life

Yaw Yeboah and Derrick Jones had a job thousands dream of: professional soccer players. They bet it all, only to end up losing.

MLS suspended them for life for their involvement in sports betting. Yeboah wore the Columbus Crew jersey, and Jones wore LAFC’s.

And what’s most baffling is that both are said to have bet against their own teams—that is, against the club that paid their salaries and the teammates they shared a locker room with.

This wasn’t the first time they had gotten into this kind of trouble. Both had already received a warning in 2025, but they broke the rules again. This time, there was no second chance.

Now they will never be able to play in MLS again, and their professional careers are seriously jeopardized. In betting, you win and you lose. This time, both lost.
